Natural ways to help detox the body
Detox basically means to cleanse.
So after all the over indulgence during Christmas time, we may be left feeling a bit ( or a lot ) meh!
Too much food, too much sugar, processed food, alcohol…etc…. can leave you feeling sluggish, tired or just plain gross haha..
Signs that you need a detox
- Sugar cravings and food cravings for junk food
- Fatigue/low energy
- Belly fat ( hard to shift )
- Skin problems
- Aches & pains
- Bad breath
So why not give your body a good cleanse to rejuvenate – like a spring clean!
To start the new year fresh and full of energy.
I’ve put together in this post some ideas for you to try, if it feels right for you.
You know your own body best, so always do what’s right for you.
*Note – I’m not a medical expert and this is not a detox plan or diet fad*
I’m just sharing some tips/ideas as part of a healthier lifestyle.
A little bit of everything is good, too much of anything is bad. Moderation is key
Detoxing foods/drinks to help cleanse your body of toxins
- Water ( good old H20 )
- Green tea
- Fresh fruit
- Brown rice
- Water cress
- Collard greens
- Sweet potatoes
- Cold potatoes
- Olive oil
- Sunflower seeds
- Black berries
- Cocoa powder
- Dandelion root
- Lemon water
I’m not much of a believer in fad diets, I believe in eating real foods NOT processed food aka junk food! to help you stay healthy.
Also because we are all unique, sometimes certain foods don’t agree with us – we can have allergies and intolerances to certain food. Stay away from these foods.
The more organic foods you can eat, the better. Organic foods are natural and grown without all the harmful chemicals like pesticides and the less processed the better too as then foods contain less preservatives, artificial colours and flavours. Less GMOs because all these chemicals can cause havoc with our hormonal balance and health generally.
So try and eat as organic and fresh as you are able.
Organic foods have a higher content of nutrients than other foods.
Some may get some symptoms
Some people may get some symptoms when they start to detox but don’t worry they’re only minor and don’t last too long. Some may get flu-like symptoms, upset stomach or skin break-outs. It’s just your body re-adjusting and you’ll be feeling better in no time.
Drink plenty of filtered or spring water daily to flush out any toxins and to stay well hydrated.
Keep active and exercise often to stay fit and to keep everything in your body functions moving and flowing, to help quicken the detoxification process. Even going for a walk helps.
My motto is quite simple – eat REAL food NOT processed food. Drink lots of water and stay active. Self-care all the way… Do what you enjoy and be happy!
